TEHRAN -- Head of the Cultural Heritage Office in southern Khorasan Province,
Abolfazl Mokarramifar, said yesterday that the ruins of an ancient city has been
discovered near the city of Qaen in the southern part of the province. Speaking
to IRNA, he said that the city was built in the post-Islamic era and is located
in the ancient region of Doustabad, 85 kilometers west of Qaen. He added that
the region, nearly three hectares in area, is covered with potteries.
Mokarramifar also noted that it has been suggested to the Cultural Heritage
Organization that the ancient city be registered as a national monument.
