World's Oldest Flag Under Repair

Thursday, 10 June 1999

TEHRAN -- The repair work on the world's oldest flag called "Shahdad" is under way by the experts of the Cultural Heritage Organization. The metal flag, decorated with a statue of eagle, was unearthed some 28 years ago during an excavation operation in a cemetery in the ancient city of Shahdad alongside the Loot Desert. According to Majid Qazian, an expert of the Research Center for Preserving and Repairing Cultural-Historical Works, the cleaning process of the flag has been completed.

The world's oldest metal flag dates back to 5,000 years ago. The Public Relations Department of the Cultural Heritage Organization announced that the organization's experts have designed a special stand to display the flag once it is properly repaired.
