|
|
Tuesday,
12 January 1999
TEHRAN Several architectural remains belonging to the early Islamic era have
been unearthed in the course of recent experimental excavations in the ancient
city of Amol, in the northern province of Mazandaran. Director of the Cultural
Heritage Department of the province Abdolreza Mohajeri-Nejad said that
experimental excavations were launched in the region about 20 days ago and so
far important discoveries have been made in the area.
He said that in 10 excavation operations many architectural remains of the early
Islamic era were unearthed. Mohajeri-Nejad said that the findings have so far
revealed that modern water and sewage systems were practiced in that era and
that pre-Islamic culture and civilization were dominant till the 8th century
Hijira. He called on the Housing and Urban Development Ministry as well as
Mazandaran Governor General's office to cooperate with the department to specify
limits of the city of Amol.
