|
|
Wednesday,
26 May 1999
TEHRAN Head of the Cultural Heritage Organization (CHO) of Shoosh city Mohammad
Ali Yazdanfar, said yesterday that following excavations by the experts of the
organization, an ancient city dating back to the third millennium BC has been
uncovered in Shoosh. Talking to IRNA, Yazdanfar went on to say that a number of
relics including enamelled and non-enamelled potteries as well as tens of other
historical objects were also unearthed and that experts were conducting studies
on those valuable relics.
In the vicinity of the city there is an old stone graveyard which has attracted
the attention of the archeologists and has a great archeological value, the head
of CHO explained. In order to conduct more archeological research and to
determine the boundaries of the city, the concerned researchers have applied for
a legal permit from the CHO, Yazdanfar added. The ancient city whose name has
not yet been discovered is under protection of the CHO officials of Shoosh and
only the archeologists are allowed to visit the city.
