Monday, 20 August 2001

TEHRAN -- Two stolen statues from Persepolis were found in one of the post guards in Dashdestan, Bushehr Province, Sunday Commander of the Law Enforcement Forces (LEF) of Bushehr Province Reza Zare'i said.

He added that the statues include a symbol of sculptures which are placed on top of pillars in Persepolis and a statue of wild goat made of gold. The two statues weigh one kilogram. The ancient Persepolis ruins are located near Shiraz in Fars Province.

Zare'i added that one person, who was to transfer the statues to Fars Province, has been arrested.  He said that the statues are currently in Cultural Heritage Organization of Bushehr Province for examination and evaluation.

Some five stolen statues have been found by Bushehr LEF in Dashtestan in July too.
