A museum specifically devoted to the
Greatest of Iranian poet, Master Ferdowsi of Tus
(940-1020 AD), and his masterpiece of Shah Nameh (the
epic of Kings) which most deservedly obtained the title
of the "Persian Holy Book", will be set up
within the Tus Museum in the north eastern province of
Khorasan.
According to the deputy head of the Cultural Heritage
Department of Khorasan for publicity and education
Morteza Choupankar, in the past just some sections of
the Tus museum was allocated to the great poet, but due
to the location of the museum next to the tomb of Master
Ferdowsi and his great importance, the Cultural Heritage
Organization has decided to turn the museum entirely to
a show room of various versions of Shahnameh and other
items reminiscent of Master Ferdowsi.
The building of Tus Museum, on the west wing of Master
Ferdowsi tomb garden, was designed and constructed
primarily as a traditional tea house by Houshang Seyhoun
in 1968 but in 1982 it was turned into a museum
displaying Archaeological findings of the region and some
items related to Master Ferdowsi.
