Restoration of the twin towers of
Kharaghan, the first double shell domes of Iran located
near Qazvin, reached completion.
Head of the local cultural heritage department Mohammad
Mohammadzadeh said that the domes had been totally
ruined in last year’s earthquake and added “the
carried out restorations include the complete
reconstruction of the two domes, and we hope to start to
work on the decorations by next year.”
The twin towers of Kharaghan are located near Qazvin in
midwestern Iran and are considered the first double
shell domes of Iran, dating back to some one thousand
years ago. Their brick and tile decorations are also
among the best decorations of historical monuments of
the country.
