Archaeologists are set to start to look for agricultural
remains from a village 15 km from the Burnt City in
southeastern Iran.
Head of the explorations team Dr. Mansour Sajjadi said in
this season of explorations, the first of its kind, the Archaeological team would seek a village, some pottery
workshops and the living place of farmers and pottery
artisans.
Dr. Sajjadi noted there have been many villages around the
Burnt City. "Our findings suggest the city
inhabitants used to be craftsmen and that's why in this
historical site we look for traces of farming activities,
including the cultivation of grain to sustain the people
of the city at the time," he remarked.
He said the common sense was that the city inhabitants
would trade industrial and hand made objects with
agricultural products in the surrounding villages.
Located near Zabol, the burnt city is a historical one
with an area of 150 hectares. It is considered one of the
main historical sites in the country, which used to be
inhabited 3200 to 1900 B.C. In its heyday, it had a
population of 15,000.
