Archaeological excavations carried out in
the historical site of Qoli Darvish near Qom in central
Iran have rendered remains of iron foundries in the Iron
Age. The findings are expected to cast light on the
characteristics of the Iron Age in this area.
A member of the excavation team said diggings have led
to significant findings about the Iron Age settlements
as well as foundries.
Shirin Aqili noted the Qoli Darvish site could
contribute to current understanding about the the Iron
Age settlements and their characteristics.
"Finding foundries could furnish plenty of
information about metal works in the Iron Age (the first
millennium B.C.)," she said.
