12,000 historical objects held in the
prehistoric treasury of Iran's National Museum were
categorized based on the archaeological sites of their
discovery.
In the previous years, the archaeological finds entering
the prehistoric treasury of the museum were categorized
based on individual numbers assigned to them, which made
the collection somehow unsystematic.
Therefore following the equipment of the store rooms and
transfer of objects from the prehistoric section to the
new treasuries, they were categorized based on their
digging sites, explained official in charge of the
prehistoric objects of the National Museum Nasrin Zehtab.
The objects have been categorized and organized based on
two factors: their discovery site and then their
material. In addition, the compilation of historical and
geographical information about the ancient archaeological
sites related to the prehistoric times is underway.
According to Zehtab, items with unknown backgrounds are
being studied to ascertain their identification and
revise incorrect information. So far 75 percent of the
project has been completed.
