The Rudkhan fort is a large
military-administrative fort located 20 km southeast of
Fouman in the northern Gilan province.
Sitting atop the Rudkhan village heights, the fort is
divided into two eastern and western parts, with the
latter bigger than the former.
The eastern section includes 12 entrances, prison,
emergency door, bath house as well as several homes
while the western part comprises 12 entrance gates,
fountain, cistern, cellar, bath house, alcove and some
homes encircled by bulwarks.
Preliminary evidence uncovered by digging indicate
suggest the foundation of the structure was built in the
Sasanian era and rebuilt in the Seljuks reign. Still,
there is no precise information regarding the date of
its construction.
