The third season of the
archaeological
excavations in the eastern Mazandaran province is set to
start, aimed at looking into the cultures of Palaeolithic
and Neolithic ages.
“In this season of archaeological excavations, we are
going to discover and investigate cultures of Palaeolithic and Neolithic ages once existed in eastern
Mazandaran, specifically an area between two Gamishan
caves in eastern Behshahr”, said Forouzi, head of the archaeological team.
Concerning the objectives of these investigations,
Forouzi said that the main purpose of these excavations
include, finding all existing settlements in the spot,
looking into their connection system and dispersal of
the archaeological sites and their environmental
relations as well as population growth in these areas in
different eras.
Special methods such as geomorphology, ecological
expertise and stone craftsmanship will be used in these
excavations.
As for the conclusions drawn during these excavations in
Gohar Hill and Rostamkola where relics from Iron and
Bronze Ages have been found, archaeologists hope that
outcome of these excavations, too, could be useful and
efficient in probing the developments and growth of the
societies from the Palaeolithic age to modern urban
dwelling.
