Iranian
archaeologists carrying out
excavations on a hill near the Ahrom-Borazjan road in
the southern Bushehr province have come across stone
tools from the Palaeolithic age some 12000 years old. The
six stone tools were discovered on the Gel Pokhti hill.
Hamid Zare'i head of the archaeological team said the
finds were too few to provide enough information about
the various aspects of the stone industry in the area.
Still they were considered important in that they were
the only such finds in the province. He expressed hope
research on a wider scale in the long run could lead to
more archaeological finds in the province.
The Gel Pokhti hill covers an area of 13,000 square
meters with a maximum altitude of 30 meters. Various
pottery pieces from the historical-Islamic era have also
been found on the fringes of the hill.
