Iranian-British Archaeologists Excavate Bushehr Sites

07 December 2004

A team of Iranian and British archaeologists will conduct research for one month in the southern province of Bushehr province, local officials announced.

The team is made up of archaeologists from the Archaeology Research Center (affiliated with Iran's Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization) and British Durham University, Ardeshir Mohammadi Baghmalai said.

"These archaeologists have been conducting studies along the northern coasts of the Persian Gulf in Bushehr since November 21 to evaluate their potentials," he added.

Many domestic and international archaeological teams plan to visit Bushehr province to learn about its history," he added.

Earlier archaeological excavations indicate that the Elamites, Achaemenids, Parthians, Sasanids and Muslim rulers of the region were engaged in trading along the Persian Gulf coast.
