The certificate for
the registration of Bam citadel in the world heritage list
was handed over to the Iranian officials in Bam yesterday
afternoon.
Handing over the Bam certificate in a special ceremony in
Bam citadel research site, Mounir Bouchenaki, UNESCO
assistant director general for culture, said, "We
hope that Bam will be showered with international aids.
The next steps in the renovation of Bam citadel will be a
long-term plan, research on the mud-brick architecture,
and cooperation with countries and organizations around
the world."
In this ceremony held at the presence of Mohammad Beheshti,
director of Iranian cultural heritage research center,
Abdolhassan Vatandoust, Iranian CHTO deputy of
international affairs, Abdin Saleh, director of UNESCO
office in Iran, and Ahmad Jalali, Iranian representative
in UNESCO, Bouchenaki unveiled a memorial plate by the Bam
citadel entrance.
About the limitations of registering historical sites in
world heritage list, Bouchenaki said, "Making
decisions and reconsidering them in this case resides with
the world heritage committee."
"Iran deserves to have more sites in the world
heritage list than the 6 ones it already has", said
Bouchenaki.
Mounir Bouchenaki, in Iran for a 7-day visit, is going to
see Pasargad heritage site and heritage-rich
Tangeh-bolaghi that will be washed over next year due to
the inauguration of Sivand dam.
Mohammad Beheshti, Abdolhassan Vatandoust, and Eskandar
Mokhtari, director of Bam salvage site, were the
recipients of Bam citadel certificate.
