Following an urban construction project
in Sanandaj, in the western province of Kurdistan, parts
of the city's old fortress were unearthed.
According to Head of Kurdistan cultural heritage
department Mohammad Ibrahim Zare’i, the construction
project was stopped due to the important discovery and
the experts of the department have started digging
boring pits and research in order to find more parts of
the fortress.
Studies on the history of the historical monument
indicate that the main fortress of Sanandaj _ Saneh Dez
_ has been built at the reign of Shah Safi, dating back
to AD 1636.
