Isfahan,
as Iran’s most renowned historical city, ranks first among
cities with the most damaged historical textures and its
dilapidation is exacerbating, head of renovation of Iranian
historical textures Mohammad Ali Tabrsa complained.
Regretting
the complete devastation of historical textures in the holy
cities of Mashhad and Qom, Tabrsa said, “The destruction of
the historical texture of Isfehan, due to the multitude of its
historical sites and monuments, is worse than that of other
provinces in Iran, but it should be sadly noted that the
historical texture of Qom has been completely destroyed in
recent years.
”
He cited the construction of the infamous Jahan-Nama building in
the vicinity of the Naghshe Jahan Square as a blatant example of
infringing and ignoring preserved zones. Tabrsa also noted the
destruction of the historical textures of Tabriz and Kerman
because of the intensified urbanization and said, “While
modern cities should be able to meet the growing demands of
their citizens’ needs, urbanization must not ruin national
assets and cultural monuments.”
