Archaeological Operation in Khwaje Mountain to Begin in October

06 June 2004

The archaeological and pathological work on Khaje Mountain in the southeastern province of Sistan and Baluchestan is due to kick start in October.

Khwaje Mountain is the sole natural highland in the area and artifacts found there date back to Ashkanid and Sasanid dynasties and early times of Islam.

“The following round of archaeological excavation is aimed at renovating the mountainous site and collecting historical texts on it,” maintained Mohammad Hussein Sargazi, head of the Cultural Heritage Organization in the province.

The Khwaje Mountain site comprises a palace and temple, allegedly dating back to the reign of king Gandopahres (Gondêfar) of House of Suren-Pahlav.
