Parts
of the workshops and military facilities of the Roudkhan
Fortress, the largest brick fortress of the country, have
been discovered during the fourth excavation season in the
area.
Roudkhan Fortress, located 650 meters above the ground
level in the northern province of Gilan, covers an area of
2.6 hectares with its 42 tower and ramparts made of brick
and stone.
Parts of the workshops and military facilities of the
fortress were uncovered in its eastern and northern wings,
explained head of the excavation team, Shahram Ramin, who
described the discovery as of great importance.
Two watchtowers were also found in the northwestern and
southeastern parts of the fortress, overseeing the
surrounding areas.
The researchers of the project intend to survey and
document the Roudkhan military fortress for further
studies and restoration activities.
