Cancer,
Tuberculosis, back pains, spinal cord twists, mouth and teeth
infection, among others, have been the most common illnesses in
ancient Iran, experts concluded.
After studying skeletons unearthed in the Burnt City in
Sistan-Baluchistan province, Kabood Mosque in Tabriz, Talesh in
Gilan province and Kharand in Semnan province, archaeologists and
anthropologists could shortlist 16 rampant and rife ailments in
these historical sites.
“Among 600 skeletons dating from the 4th to 1st millennium BC,
120 with symptoms of illness were diagnosed. Following thorough
analysis, we could recognize cancer and TB in 37 remains, back
and spinal cord pains in 30, mouth and teeth infection in 20,”
said Forazanfar, head of anthropological studies in Iranian
Cultural Heritage Organization (CHO).
He insisted the prognosis of these illnesses would help experts
to learn more about the lifestyle and culture of ancient
inhabitants of the Earth.
