Iranian experts on geology and civil structures are searching for remnants of what is believed to be an ancient city beneath the historical site of Bistoon in the western province of Kerman-shah.

“Several mud bricks have been so far excavated near the historical Bistoon Inscription in the bank of Gamasiab River, which could indicate the existence of some houses, possibly ruined by the overflow of the river.

 

The inscription itself points to a fully-developed engineering culture in the area. The stone cutting workshop, named Farhad Tarash, also shows that local residents used to use stones chiseled from Bistoon Mountain,” said Abdolazim Amirshah Karmi, a structure and geology expert.

Bistoon is a historical site 30km northeastern of Kerman-shah capital city. Such monuments as Median Temple, relief image and inscription of Dariush the Great, Hercules’ statue, relief image of Mehrdad II (The Great) of Parthian dynasty, and a huge salver named Farhad Tarash all indicate that exploring this site is of paramount importance.
