World’s
oldest ziggurat and relics of ancient architecture discovered in
Kashan’s 7,000-year-old Siyalk will be renovated and
conserved.
Archaeologists have managed to find relics of ancient
architecture and mudbrick-made structures in recent seasons of
excavations in the Siyalk historical site, all of which in dire
need of renovation.
“Since these great structures are made of mud brick and have
been corroded over the years by climate conditions, they will be
subject to an emergency repair and conservation action plan over
the next couple of months, including replacing damaged mud
bricks and plastering the walls,” manager of the project Hamid
Fahimi said.
The Siyalk historical site, located near the central city of
Kashan, is one of the richest ancient sites in the globe. Archaeologists have managed to discover the oldest ziggurat of
the world, dating back 2,800 years and made with over a million
mud bricks.
