Studies on Culture and Civilization of Iran’s Northwest Dwellers in 4th Millennium BC

Iranian archaeologists have recently discovered artifacts and other items related to the Kura-Aras Civilization in the Qazvin Highland.

The civilization had been developed in the late 4th millennium BC in Caucasus and then had moved to Iran’s northwest area, though there is little evidence of its expansion and the culture it represented in the area.

“The latest excavations were made last year in the Qazvin Highland and led to the discovery of 3 major historical periods, among which Calcolectic period is of high importance,” said Dr. Hussein Fazeli Nashli, who along with his colleague Bahram Ajorloo has done extensive studies in Qazvin.

He added, “The potteries unearthed during the excavations reveal the features of this culture and civilization. Given the tradition of pottery in the 4th millennium BC, the discovered artifacts indicate they all belong to a single culture and civilization.”
