The historical Naderi teppe in Moghan Plain in
the west central Ardabil province, will soon undergo new
excavations and stratigraphy studies.
According to head of the Ardabil cultural heritage department
Karim Hajizadeh, the most important feature of the area is
remains from border posts dating to the Arsacids and Sasanids
times. These remains along with remains from the pre- and post
Islamic civilizations will be dealt with during the upcoming
studies, in order to pinpoint the identity of the region.
Preliminary research shows that the hill has continuously been
residential from the old Bronze Age (third millennium B.C.) to
the Safavid time (AD 16th to 18th centuries), explained head of
the archeology team of Moghan Plain, Karim Ali Zadeh.
The new series of excavations will aim at stratigraphy studies
and identifying the various cultural features of Naderi Hill
from the third millennium B.C. up to the Safavid time. And since
proof of life before that has been found in the areas next to
the hill, the work also provides the researchers with the
opportunity to identify the cultural periods of Moghan Plain
from the Copper-Stone Age (fourth and fifth millennium B.C.) up
to the Safavid era, said Ali Zadeh. Naderi Hill is of specific
importance to researchers because in none of its neighboring
sites such continuous residential periods have been identified.
