Historical
Roads to Meymand to be
Identified

The ancient roads leading to the 3000-year-old
village of Meymand, in the central province of Kerman, will be
unearthed in the excavations in the region.
Meymand is an ancient village with houses cut like holes inside
the mountain rocks, with no chimney or windows.
The village has been inhabited since 3000 years ago, and
preliminary studies show that its surrounding is filled with
historical stone inscriptions, ossuaries and numerous historical
items, the abundance of which all around the village may be an
indication of its connection to other areas from all sides,
explained director of the studies, Mahnaz Ashrafi.
She added that Meymand enjoys a unique location considering
access to Fars, Sistan va Balouchestan, Yazd and Bandar Abbas
provinces, leading experts to believe that it was once one of
their access roads; it even seems that there once has been a
road from Meymand to the ancient city of Pasargade, in Fars.
The village continues its existence with a 132 population who
keep some of their old traditions alive.
