of National Library in Yazd has been suspended
following a dispute between municipal officials
and Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism
Organization (ICHTO) about preserving the ancient
texture of the city.
According to Urban and Architecture New Agency (UAN),
construction of the library was approved by the
Article 5 Commission of Yazd and the project has
recorded a progress of 60 percent.
An official of the Housing Organization in Yazd
province, Mohammad Darzereshki said that ICHTO
believes that the construction of the library will
damage cultural heritage of the city.
He added that ICHTO had so far consented to the
project, but, they rejected the earlier agreement
after objecting to the building’s elevation.

Hosseini said that height of the library should
not exceed nine meters, whereas, the skeleton of
the building is 19 meters high.
Hosseini said that ICHTO had authorized the
construction of 7,200 square meters of library
with an elevation of nine meters.
The official said that the architecture and
elevation of the building under construction is
disproportionate with the cultural texture of Yazd.
