Burnt City Ancient Animation Proposed as ASIFA Logo

News Category: Cultural

 14 November 2005

The World’s first animation which was discovered in a porcelain jar in the ’Burnt City’ (Shahr-e Sukhte) in the southern Iranian province of Sistan-Baluchestan will be introduced as a logo for the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA).

The animation depicts a wild goat (Capra Aegagrus also known as 'Persian desert Ibex') which is jumping to reach a tree. This animation shows how ancient Iranians put their ideas into picture, Pars news agency said.

ASIFA Managing Director Kamyab Darvishi noted that porcelain served as a painting canvas in ancient world. Ancient artists used porcelains to express their ideas and depict events taking place in their surroundings.

“The discoveries made at Burnt City show that Iranians were the pioneers in animation,“ he added.
