Discovery of a Parthian Crypt in Qom

20 October 2005

(CAIS) -- Archaeologists working in Veshnoveh area of Qom have discovered a crypt belonging to the Arsacid dynasty.

“The crypt dated back to late 1st century BCE, was used either as an Ānāhitā or Mithraic temple”, said Ali Rustaei, head of Veshnoveh archaeological expedition.

The discovery has taken place in last week of fifth season of archaeological research in Veshnoveh.

More than 50 ancient mines have been identified in Veshnoveh which date back to pre-historic eras and there are evidences that prove the mines were exploited seasonally, he added.
