Simorgh
[or Sen Murv], the famous mythical Persian
bird, has been chosen as the symbol of 2005 World
Tourism Day, 27th of September, in Iran.
The suggestion was made by the committee set up in
Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism
Organization to hold ceremonies of World Tourism
Day in the country.
According to Shiva Pazhoohesh, a member of the
commitee, the suggestion has been made due to the
special status of Simorgh as a mythical bird in
Persian literature. The bird is also a symbol of
traveling, and therefore in accordance with this
year’s WTD slogan: “Travel and Transportation:
from the Imaginary of Jules Verne to 21st Century
Reality”.
On World Tourism Day, school bells will be sounded
for traveling and tour leaders will go to schools
to hold talks with school children of their
memories. Another program is to publish travel
guides for children in which attractions of Iran
will be introduced in a simple language with
pictures.
Some negotiations have also been made with the
Iranian television (IRIB) to have some special
programs on tourism industry and traveling on 27th
September.
Hotels will give special discounts to their guests
and some efforts have been made to provide free
access to museums, like the previous years, on
this day.
