Izeh Artifacts Will Be Handed Over to Energy Ministry

24 September 2005

Artifacts unearthed from the historical site of Izeh will soon be handed over to the Energy Ministry, announced the Head of Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department in Khuzestan province, Sadeq Mohammadi.

According to CHN, the items were recovered several months ago from sites which were submerged after Karoun 3 Dam went into operation.

Experts contend that it will not be possible to get access to them for at least the next 200 years.

However, Mohammadi said, “A number of the artifacts have been on display since March but due to the lack the facilities for maintaining them, we will soon hand over them to the Energy Ministry.“

This is while Iran’s National Museum had earlier expressed readiness to take delivery of the items.

Any way, the transfer of objects pertaining to Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization requires the approval of the organization.

Meanwhile, head of Izeh Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department, Karamat Tahmasbi maintained that showcasing the items can increase public awareness about their local culture and civilization.

The unearthed objects include stone arrowheads belonging to the Middle Elamite era, hand-made potteries with designs as well as cups and dishes from different eras.
