Mohammad-Ali
Jafarian said that the recent studies in Chariseh indicate that the region
is one of the richest fossil areas in the world that has not been
thoroughly studied.
The
Isfahan
researchers believe that fossils from all geological periods will be found
in Chariseh.
“Chariseh
is an important world fossil region. Its main geological period is the
Devonian period, while the studies date the region to 600 million years
ago.
“The
amphibians were living in the region millions of years ago during the time
when
Isfahan
was a sea,” Jafarian added.
Fossils
of animals such as turtles and coral 30 to 60 million years old were also
discovered in the region, he said, adding that the recent discovery proves
that the region was home to unique species of animals millions of years
ago.
Researchers
plan to conduct more studies in the Chariseh fossil region, which is still
relatively unknown to the world.
