The third season of excavation in Jiroft historical site wrapped up with more than 180 seal impressions, architectural remains and ancient artefacts dating to the third millennium BC unearthed in the area.

The historical sites which are located along the Halilrood River side are considered of major sites of the world where numerous remains and artefacts have been discovered by both archaeologists and illegal looters.

Head of the excavation team of Jiroft, Dr. Yusef Majidzadeh, assessed the season a complete success, during which architectural remains, ancient artefacts, and more than 180 seal impressions were discovered in northern and southern Konar Sandal sites.

The impressions exhibit diverse animal, plant, and human forms, and archaeologists are hopeful that they provide them with useful information on the life style and business and economic exchanges of the ancient times.

An inscribed brick with two lines of handwriting dating to the first half of the third millennium BC, which experts have primarily identified it as an Elamite one, is one of the other major remains found in the site.

Majidzadeh believes that the inscribed brick is at least 500 years older than that previously found in Susa.

The third season of excavations in Jiroft launched two months ago with more than 20 Iranian, French, and American experts with different specialties cooperating in the project.
