Archaeologists
have discovered 85 sites of metal works and 15
ancient mines in the northern part of Jiroft and
Laleh Zar and Hezar mountains, in Kerman province,
classifying the area as an important industrial
center of Ancient Iran.
Jiroft ancient sites, located on the riverside of
Halil Roud, are one of the important
archaeological sites of the world in which
architectural remains and ancient artifacts have
been discovered during three years of excavation.
85 sites of ancient metal works and 15 ancient
mines of copper, iron, and lead have been
identified in the area, explained head of the
excavation team, Hussein Tofighian, making the
experts believe that the northern part of Jiroft
and Laleh Zar and Hezar mountains have been one of
the important industrial centers of Ancient Iran.
Since neither clay works nor other archaeological
objects have been found in the perimeters of the
metal sites and mines, their exact historical era
has not yet been determined.
During work in the northern areas of Jiroft, 145
other archaeological sites with remains from the
third millennium BC up to the Islamic period have
been discovered. The study of these remains and
their comparison with items found in the Jiroft
Plateau and Halil Roud riverside will provide
experts with valuable information on the area and
its civilization.
