Unique
artifacts, unearthed from the historical site
which was submerged by the reservoir of Karoun-3
Dam, will soon be transferred to Iran National
Museum.
According to the Persian daily Jam-e Jam, more
than 36 pieces of artifacts including pottery,
metal tools such as arrowheads, javelins and
buckles as well as swords and knives and
ornamental metallic items like metal pins used in
women’s hairdressing were displayed on the
sidelines of recent one-day Conference on
Archeology of Karoun-3 Dam.
Meanwhile, head of Iran National Museum Mohammad
Reza Karegar said that the antiques unearthed from
the site will be delivered to the museum.
Excavations, which were led by archeologist Jafar
Mehr-Kian, conducted before the reservoir was
filled in November 2004 succeeded in unearthing
first-grade antiquities from the area, Karegar
said.
Mehr-Kian said that the excavations have been very
successful in unearthing precious artifacts.
He said that maintenance of the artifacts should
be of prime importance because if they were kept
in substandard conditions, they would be exposed
to destruction.
