Data on Historical Monuments Damaged in Iran-Iraq War Published

04 April 2006

LONDON, (CAIS) -- The historical monuments damaged in the 1980-1988 Iran-Iraq war have been studied and the information gathered has been documented in 20 volumes, the Persian service of CHN reported on Monday.

This is the first time comprehensive data have been compiled on the damaged monuments.

The director of the Research Center of Monuments of the Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (CHTO) said that the collected data will help Iran in its legal claims in international courts for war reparations.

Mohammad Mohebali added that the research was carried out in twelve provinces of southern and western Iran and also documented the financial damage.

He explained that renovation of the monuments would be completed based on the collected information.

He also said he believes that Iranian and International experts will find the documents collected in the research project very useful.
