Excavations
Reveal Jiroft Watermill

11 April 2006
|
LONDON,
(CAIS) -- Archaeologists believe they have discovered
one of the 150 watermills at Jiroft’s historical site.
The head of excavation team, Hamideh Choubak, told reporters that excavations
led to a pillar-like structure which is most probably one of the watermills of
the ancient city.
She pointed out that according to history textbooks, ancient Jiroft had 150
watermills.
Choubak further said that a section of the city’s bath and designs showing a
partial figure of a woman playing a musical instrument carved on a wall have
also been discovered.
She said the woman’s clothing matches that of the Seljuk era and is also
reminiscent of Sasanid and Parthian dynastic eras.
