LONDON,
(CAIS) -- Maintenance works conducted on Pasargadae,
in the past decades can be assessed in light of the latest scientific
advancements.
Expressing this view, secretary for coordinating the projects implemented by
Iran’s Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization (ICHTO), Hossein Khademzadeh
said that although most of the undertakings has special value, researchers need
feedback to adopt a reliable procedure for safeguarding the global heritage site
at Pasargadae which was registered as a cultural site on UNESCO’s global
heritage list in 2004.
The first step to be taken in line with global registration is determining the
precincts of the monuments, he said.
The most important point here, he pointed out, is that demarcation is never
final and has to be specified on the basis of intense research and deeper
insights.
“However, such an understanding, especially about Pasargadae, requires many
years. What is important here is the systematic start of research works in all
fields including archaeology,“ said Khademzadeh.
The official pointed out that the absence of a special research centre for
dealing with Pasargadae and its dependency on Persepolis (Takht-e Jamshid) is
due to the attitudes of UNESCO and ICHTO, both of which are aware of close
relationship between the two monuments. “Of course, there is an archaeological
base in Pasargadae, which will be further equipped in the course of time,“ he
added.
He discounted as inaccurate the claim that the use of materials such as mortar
in repairing stone monuments is outdated and said that no suitable substitute
has so far been found for that. “Until there is a better solution, it is
better to use this method in times of emergency,“ he concluded.
