Road
Work Stopped to Save Sasanid Dam
|
|
01 August 2006
|
LONDON,
(CAIS) -- Construction of a road in the vicinity of the
Sasanid Bandbor Dam in Jahrom has been brought to a standstill by the Cultural
Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department of Fars province, with an aim to
save this Sasanid structure from becoming another victim of alleged development
projects.
According to CHN, the department has also delineated a new path for the road and
called on the Ministry of Energy to redirect the route.
“The Ministry of Energy was constructing a road, part of which passes over
this Sassanid dam which is registered on the National Heritage List. This
necessitated that the Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department of
Fars province intervene to stop the project,“ said Mosayyeb Amiri, deputy head
of the department for preservation and restoration affairs.
Bandbor is a historic dam which was constructed in present-day Jahrom, Fars
province, during the Sassanid rule (224-651 CE)..
