LONDON,
(CAIS) -- An Iranian expert involved in the project
to protect the ancient Choghazanbil Ziggurat, Khuzestan
province has said that further research studies are needed
to identify the bricks used in constructing the monument
and to improve the process of maintenance.
Speaking to ISNA, Professor Kazem Borhani said, “After
studying the main mortars used in Choghazanbil, we decided
to prepare more resistant mortars.“
Brick walls of the ziggurat in which the mortar has eroded
have to be repaired, he noted.
“We can use mortar, which has undergone a number of lab
tests, instead of the previous mortars,“ Borhani said.
No protective layer can be created for the bricks used in
the construction of ziggurat, he said, adding that of
course, they are durable because they have been fully
baked.
