LONDON,
(CAIS) -- Archeological studies will begin in Semnan
to determine human civilizations in the area during prehistoric and ancient
periods.
Head of the archeological team, Kourosh Roustaei said that the studies will be
conducted as part of a program called ’human beings and environment’ in the
central Iranian plateau.
Last year, archeologists undertook excavations at Kalateh Khan and Qefkhaneh on
Shahroud plain.
Roustaei told Persian Service of CHN that the program will be pursuant to
research studies at Shahroud plain adding that over 51 historical sites dating
back from the prehistoric times to the middle Islamic period have been studied
and there is a possibility that excavations will be conducted beyond Semnan.
Asked to comment on the reason for selecting Semnan as a center for the
archeology study ’human beings and environment’, he said that studies
indicated that Semnan is similar to Shahroud where the excavations resulted in
positive findings.
Roustaei said that he presented a comprehensive plan for one round of
excavations at Semnan plain to the Archeology Research Center adding that a sum
of 70 million rials has been envisaged for the project.
“Once funds are forthcoming, excavations at Semnan plain will begin from
October,“ he added.
The archeologist said that there is possibility that one chapter of studies will
be increased to two or more.
The Archeology Research Center will study the outcome of the excavations later
