LONDON, (CAIS) -- A new season of stratigraphic studies in the historic area of Hegmataneh in Hamedan will be launched in late August to substantiate previous research findings, director of the archeology team assigned with the task said, ISNA Persian Service wrote.

Masoud Azarnoush recalled, “Hegmataneh Hill was excavated by a team led by Mohammad-Rahim Sarraf in the course of 12 archeological seasons. The studies were halted for several years, following which two seasons of stratigraphic studies were conducted on a small scale.“
He said, “The archeologists came across a virgin stratigraphic layer in their examinations last year.“

He added that the studies would be continued in other areas of the historic site this year, including the excavation pits dug by French archeologists as well as areas which are likely to bear different relics.

Insisting on the small scale of excavations, he said, “Preserving the excavated sites and remains is of high importance. With every new excavation, Iran Cultural Heritage and Tourism Organization is burdened with heavier financial and executive responsibilities.“
