Roadway Workers Find Sasanian Artifacts

19 June 2006

LONDON, (CAIS) -- Workers engaged in road construction have came across a historical hearth and a number of other artifacts dating back to the Sassanid dynasty (224-651 CE) while removing the earth to build the highway, reported ISNA Persian Service.

An ancient mound was also discovered during preliminary works on the construction of Ammar-Yaser highway.

An expert with Cultural Heritage and Tourism Department in Qom province, Ahmad Mousavi, said several other artifacts which belonged to the Ilkhanid and Qajar eras as well as more ancient artifacts dating back to the 4th millennium BCE were also found in the area.
