LONDON,
(CAIS) -- An ancient Ziggurat-like structure at Konar
Sandal, Jiroft, Kerman province, an internationally known cultural heritage
structure, will undergo repairs, said an archaeologist with Iran’s Cultural
Heritage and Tourism Organization (ICHTO) Nader Soleimani.
He said that ICHTO has earmarked 400 million rials for restoration works at the
site.
Elaborating on the process of repairing the ancient edifice, he said that
110,000 mud bricks are needed for fixing on different parts of the structure
which were eroded with the lapse of time.
He said that structures at Konar Sandal are made of mud bricks and in order to
prevent their destruction, special stairways will be built for visitors, so the
other parts of the cultural heritage site will be protected from being destroyed
as a result of the movement of visitors.
Soleimani said that Konar Sandal historical site is internationally recognized
and since Jiroft boasts of an ancient civilization, ICHTO has given priority to
the maintenance of this cultural heritage and save the site from further
destruction.
The archaeologist welcomed the allocation of fund for repairing the edifice and
said that ICHTO would expedite executive works for its restoration.
“The plan for repairing the historical site of Konar Sandal should be regarded
as a national project and extra facilities should be provided for the
purpose,“ he concluded.
