Kangelu Castle to Be Excavated

LONDON,
(CAIS) -- Kangelu
Castle in southeast of Doāb of Savadkuh district, will be excavated for the first time.
During the preliminary research a number of objects date back to the
Sasanid dynasty were discovered.
“Studies about paths through the castle and historical area of Savādkuh have
been done,” head of the excavation team, Saman Sortichi, said.
During the project a three dimensional map will be prepared and
also discovered artefacts will be analysed to provide new information about the
historical site, he added.
Kangalu Castle located on an isolated mountain; it is constructed out of stone and mortar
with high walls. On the northern and southern sides of the walls two solid
towers were symmetrically built. The castle dates back to the
Sassanid dynastic era (224-651 CE), and archaeologists believe that the castle was used as a religious
centre.
