LONDON, (CAIS) -- High Administrative Islamic Court has issued an injunction against the nation, and in favor of the private owner of a hotel built near Eshgaft-e Salman historical site in Khuzestan province, putting at risk the registration of the structure on the global cultural heritage list.

Eshgaft-e Salman is the venue of the largest cuneiform inscription which dates back to the Elamite era.

According to Persian service of CHN, the institute’s action follows a delay in submitting the case by the provincial Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Department.

Head of the department, Sadegh Mohammadi claimed the owner has made changes in the documents he has presented to the court. He called for reviewing the case once again.

Experts maintain that the existence of the hotel is a barrier to the registration of the monument on the global cultural heritage list.

Mohammadi said, “The court injunction has been issued based on a manipulated expertise survey and we can prove this violation to turn the decree in favor of the department.“

The department was very hopeful about receiving the court’s approval to suspend the construction of the hotel, he said.

Municipality inaugurated the structure as an amphitheater but it later became clear that it is a ten-story hotel.

Eshgaft-e Salman is home to four bas relief, two inside the cave and two outside.
