LONDON, (CAIS) -- Iran is conducting archaeological excavations at the historical Yazdgerd Castle site for the first time since 1979.

The Yazdgerd Castle was first excavated by Edward J. Keall of Toronto Royal Ontario Museum, who found a collection of artistic symbols, dating back to the third Iranian dynasty, the Parthians (248 BCe-224 CE).

Keall also discovered an ancient city with strikingly decorated palaces, bastions, and temples.

Yazdgerd Castle, located in Western Kermanshah Province, overlooks the ancient Silk Road.

The two-month excavation project led by Iranian archaeologist, Dr. Masoud Azarnoush, will start on Nov. 21st, 2007.
