Oxford University Determines the Age of Kelar Tappeh
|

LONDON,
(CAIS) -- Oxford University Radiocarbon Accelerator
Unit (ORAU) has determined the exact date of Iran's northern archaeological site
of Kelar Tappeh to 4000 BCE by studying ancient coal and bone samples recovered
from the site.
Archaeological
excavations had yielded numerous caves, havens and settlements, which showed the
historical evolution of human life in the area.
There are still five more meters to reach the site's oldest stratums, and future
stratigraphical projects will possibly date the mound back to an older time.
Located in Iran's northern Mazandaran province near the city of Chalous, the
Kelar Tappeh is one of the Iran's most important archaeological mounds, with the
potential to reveal many archaeological facts about the southern coast of the
Caspian Sea.
