LONDON, (CAIS) -- Speaking with journalists in Tehran, the head of Iran’s Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organisation (ICHHTO) Esfandiar Rahim-Mashaei, claimed the high humidity level in Pasargadae is a normal condition and that there is no water behind the Sivand Dam to pose any danger to its edifices, reported the Persian service of ISNA on Sunday.

“We have not installed a hygrometer in the Sivand Dam area to ascertain the humidity level, and there is no water gathered [behind the dam]. The Pasargadae’s humidity level is an old story and it has nothing to do with the Sivand Dam. The humidity level in the Pasargadae has even dropped compared to previous years, and controlling the humidity level [in Pasargadae] requires appropriate action”, said Rahim-Mashaei.

One wonders, then, how he will take to the surprising statements when the Pasargadae’s mayor, cultural experts, cultural societies, Fars Province Meteorological Centre, and visitors have reportedly been warned about the high humidity level and unpleasant smell of damp in the area which previously was unknown.

Rahim-Mashaei is a close friend of the Islamic Republic’s president Mahmood Ahmadinejad, and prior to becoming the head of ICHHTO he worked for Tehran’s Municipality Office. Following Ahmadinejad’s victory in presidential election in 2005 and a purge of appointing uneducated and inexperienced individuals, Mashaei was given the ICHHTO job. He is also the Islamic Republic’s Vice President and the head of National Globalisation Research Centre (NCGS).

“The Islamic regime was founded on lies and deception. While every expert warns about the high humidity level and dangers to the Pasargadae, Mashaei and his ilk deny it bluntly – these people have no shame – they are Mullahs’ breed – and goodness and dignity have no meanings”, said an Iranian archaeologist to CAIS correspondent, who whished to remain anonymous for his safety.

He added: “They [Islamic Republic] have deceived our nation from the beginning. They came to power with the promises of justice, freedom, prosperity, progress, construction and equality – and instead they brought us death, injustice, oppression, corruption, backwardness, poverty, destruction and discrimination.”

He concluded: “Of course Mashaei falsely claims that there is no danger to Pasargadae – how can he says otherwise? They built Sivand dam with one objective: the destruction of Pasargadae and Mausoleum of Cyrus the Great.”
